We help students experience Civil War history

Designed for Schools

history in the classroom

Our Civil War School Talks are designed to bring Civil War history to life in the classroom, where students can see, hear, feel, and even taste what it was like for a soldier during this most impactful event in American history.

Passionate Expertise

about us

Ben Flowerday has been a Civil War historian and reenactor for over 10 years and has participated in dozens of living history exhibits and reenactments across the eastern United States.

He has served as a historical interpreter at Fort Delaware State Park (Delaware), Fort Mackinac (Michigan), and portrayed civilian and military roles in countless educational events commemorating the Battle of Gettysburg, Battle of the Wilderness, Appomattox Courthouse Surrender, and many others.

A graduate of the University of Michigan Ross School of Business, Ben loves to share his knowledge and passion about all aspects of the American Civil War—not just the well-known battles and campaigns, but also the clothing, logistics, politics, personal experiences of all involved.

Age-Based School Talks

our talks

Our School Talks are designed to complement curriculum-based Civil War teaching by highlighting certain aspects in an age-appropriate manner. Our goal is to captivate—not scare!—elementary students, to challenge and inspire middle- and high school aged students, and to expose advanced students to in-depth analysis of this most impactful event in America’s history.

Elementary

Even young students are interested in learning about the Civil War from a "real life" soldier.

middle & High school

School talks with older students include more details about the uniforms, battles, and realities of the war.

Collegiate

College-level School Talks address higher order facets of the war including strategy and ethics.

Custom

We can provide deep-dive school talks about certain battles, locations, people, or other specifics.
